Other Fun Family Outings

We only have a couple more weeks in the Washington DC / Northern Virginia area and we are trying take advantage of our time. Over the last year we have seen and done many exciting things. We're pretty busy getting ready for the Texas move, but still have found time for a few more family outings. Still on the plate . . . dinner down in Alexandria and something fun for the 4th of July.

On the evening of our DC trip, we went out into the Shenandoah area to a drive-in movie. Yes, it was Garrett's first movie theater experience! We saw Star Trek. It was a great getaway.

This last weekend we visited Harper's Ferry. This national park is the point where the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers meet. It's famous for John Brown's raid but is also an Appalachian Trail location, Civil War battlefield, and just a neat place to walk around.

Father's Day in DC

Garrett decided that he wanted to go see downtown Washington DC with Dad on Father's Day. Because of our Dallas trip (and to avoid weekend crowds) we went on Tuesday. Garrett may not be able to appreciate these for a while, but I'm really glad that we were able to get his picture at some of these incredible national monuments.

Happy (Belated) Father's Day Russ!!

Russ, you are an awesome Daddy to Garrett and I'm excited to see how you two continue to bond over the years. Thank you for being so willing to get up in the middle of the night, change diapers and love on your son. I love you and so does he. :-)

Father's Day this year was very low-key even though it was our first. We got back from Dallas LATE on Saturday night and were all exhausted the next day. Garrett gave Russ the presents "he" had gotten him: a cute little baseball-style onesie for himself that said Wells 09 on the back and a baseball-style tshirt for Daddy that said Wells 78 on the back. Yes, they match--cheesy but oh SO cute! We went to our outdoor church service (perfect weather!) and the cookout afterwards. Then we went home and relaxed the rest of the day. We went into DC on Tuesday and had our official Father's Day time. I'll let Russ blog about that later. Next year Garrett and I will be more prepared and we won't be traveling right before Father's Day.

This video was taken after he'd already been in the water for about 15 minutes. He was finally adjusting to the feel of the water but still wasn't exactly thrilled about being in it.

Dallas Trip

We had such a great time in Dallas (once we were done with the heat and craziness of househunting with a 4 month-old)! Garrett loved meeting his cousin Kaylie and her parents. They gave him the cutest "Welcome to Texas" present--a hat, terry cloth jumpsuit, swim trunks, swim diapers, pool toys and an inflatable baby pool!! I'm so excited to use them in our own backyard in Texas soon. Thank you to Jason and Corrie for being such wonderful hosts again. :-)

After hanging out with the Macmurphy's for a few days we moved on to David and Susan's house where Garrett got to meet their sweet doggy named Molly. Since we were all done looking for a place to live, we were able to relax and enjoy our time at their house--and their pool! Yes, Garrett swam for the first time and wore his cute little swim trunks and hat. You'll see a video of this event in the next post. All in all it was a successful trip with a very well-behaved baby. Garrett was a rock-star on the plane rides as well...charming everyone he met. That's our boy. Anyway, only 3 weeks until moving time so we're starting the cleaning/organizing soon. Ick. When will the whole teleportation thing be available??

Back from Dallas

We just spent one week househunting in Dallas. It was a very frustrating first day. It had us thinking that maybe one week was not long enough (or that our price range wasn't high enough). But God had the perfect place in store for us. On day two, we found the house, submitted the application, signed the lease, and paid the deposit! It's a very cosy three bedroom / two bath one-story house in a nice neighborhood. The commute should be about twenty minutes to the seminary. It also has a fairly big yard for Lucy to run around in and a two car garage! It'll be a great place for us to spend our next four years.

Rice Cereal Experiment

Since Garrett is 4 months old now and he'll be starting solid foods at 6 months, we decided to get him used to eating from a spoon now. Or so we thought. He's fine with the whole spoon thing...loves the spoon because it's shiny...but he's not so fond of the rice cereal. Let me rephrase. He HATES the rice cereal. We've tried it 3 times now and each time almost the entire little bowl has ended up on his face and bib. I'm adding this picture now and maybe later Russ can add the video (he has a super-speedy way to do it and I'm clueless about it). For now we're not pushing the rice cereal and we'll wait a few more weeks. Maybe it takes the maturity of a 5 month-old to appreciate the "taste" of rice cereal. Ha!!

Garrett is FOUR Months old!

For the first month, Garrett is now holding Airborne Bear during his monthly picture.  And I believe that this is the second month that he isn’t crying.  Just did the math – our little guy is 1/3rd of a year old.  Yikes!!!
