Highlights of Illinois

Garrett and I (Deanna) traveled back to my hometown of Tremont, Illinois last week for a visit. I was SO nervous about flying by myself with him but he was a perfect little traveler. I couldn't have asked for a better flight, coming or going. He even did well sleeping at night in the pack and play, which I was also nervous about since he had such a rough time in San Antonio. All that nervousness was for nothing and we had a wonderful time staying with his Grandma and Grandpa and seeing Aunt Krista, Uncle Nate and Uncle Bob. He even got to see some of his second cousins and his Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa! Anyway, here are some pictures to summarize our trip. Thanks for all the bubble-blowing, hokey-pokeying, watermelon-eating and peek-a-booing!! We miss you all already.... :-(

Garrett found his Uncle Bob's old glasses and thought they were fun to put on and take off. Oh how cool he looked.

There were a LOT of Grandma hugs during our visit. And a lot of climbing on Grandma too.

Brusha, brusha, brusha...

One favorite activity during our visit: climbing up the step-stool and playing peek-a-boo with the curtains.

Another favorite: building towers. And knocking them down of course!

He watched Elmo do the Hokey Pokey, then he knocked him down. The best part was hearing Elmo say "Excuse me. Could you help Elmo up please?"

Oh, the things you can get away with at the Grandparents' house! There was a Garrett-sized ledge in their fridge and he snuck some green beans while he was up there.

Enjoying some ice cream with Grandpa. Yum.

Coloring with chalk wherever he can.

Running around with Grandpa.

Chasing Aunt Krista and Uncle Nate around the pine trees. Side note: We actually planted those trees ourselves when we were in grade school. They were teeny tiny back then!

Checking out the "Koch" carving by the front door. His Great-Uncle Tim does some amazing carvings. Stop by www.stumpcarver.com to see what he does.

A bunch of second-cousins! Garrett and Roman are up front and Quincy, Nicholas and Bowen are in back. We had the McDonald's playland all to ourselves practically!

Garrett and Roman (he's about 7 months old) had fun seeing each other again. The last time we saw him he was only about 8 weeks old!

They had an area just for little guys like Garrett and he went up and down and up and down this little slide.

All children love to climb up and through the spiral stairs at my grandparents' house. Makes me hover but he had a good time. He's saying something profound to his Great Grandpa in the bottom picture, I'm sure.

Learning how to blow bubbles with Grandma! He's not too bad at it now, but he still tries to inhale them sometimes.

Aunt Krista and Uncle Bob got in on the bubble action too. Actually, whenever he threw a little fit because I wouldn't open the bubble bottle for him, he'd walk over to one of them and make a cute little face. They'd take him outside and blow bubbles just like he knew they would. :-) Softies.

Piano time!

We went out for dinner on our last night in Illinois and Garrett got a balloon attached to a little toy camera. He loved pulling it's string and watching it pop back up. And the older folks around us loved watching him play!

His Uncle Bob helped him practice the piano a bit too. He is a musician!

I had to get a picture of my parents with Garrett wearing his "Chillin In Illinois" shirt that they gave him. He got very comfortable with them during this trip and even said the words "Bama" and "Bapa" when I asked who they were at the table one night! My jaw nearly hit the floor!!

And here's the happy traveler in the cool kid-friendly area of the airport near our gate. They had a little table with kid-sized stools and a flat-screen tv with cartoons playing. Perfect for wearing a boy out before his flight.  A few hours after I took this picture we were back in Texas and giving Russ some big "We missed you" hugs.

This and That

It's been awhile since I've posted anything so I thought I'd catch y'all up with a few random pictures from the last couple weeks. Garrett is getting more and more independent every day. He hid my keys yesterday and I seriously thought I'd lost them forever. (They were found late last night in a kitchen drawer beneath some spatulas and the potato masher...just in case you were wondering.) He likes to boogie to music, especially anything Sesame Street related. And he's running and climbing on everything he can. Typical toddler, but 100% Garrett. :-)

He's up on the foot locker AGAIN and now has a new trick up his sleeve. He wants to play with his activity table from his new location.

He's also discovered that he can reach the TV buttons from on top of the foot locker. Thankfully, his Daddy leaves it on ESPN so there's always something Garrett-friendly in store.

Since Garrett and I will be in Illinois over Father's Day weekend, we took Russ out for a special brunch on Sunday. It was SO good! If you're ever in Dallas, check out the Blue Mesa Grill. You'll be glad you did.

Here they are having a father-son chat. I think they're discussing the huevos rancheros.

You may be wondering what Garrett is doing and what he's sitting on. He's using the Wii Fit board for his own purpose...

...a new episode of Sesame Street. It's like his very own movie theater seat or something. Not quite what Nintendo had in mind for the board but it works!
